Green Gold Social’s Agroforestry Initiative
At Green Gold Social, we believe in the transformative power of agroforestry to enhance food security, restore ecosystems, and empower local communities. Our agroforestry initiative focuses on integrating trees into agricultural landscapes, providing multiple benefits for farmers and the environment.
What We Do
Our program supports over 300 farmers in Chikwela village, Chongwe, Zambia, by promoting sustainable farming practices that improve crop yields and resilience to climate change. By incorporating trees like Leucaena, Gliricidia sepium, and Faidherbia albida into their farming systems, we help farmers enhance soil fertility, conserve water, and reduce deforestation.
Key Benefits of Agroforestry
- Improved Soil Health: Nitrogen-fixing trees enrich the soil, leading to healthier crops.
- Increased Crop Yields: Farmers experience better harvests through sustainable practices.
- Climate Resilience: Agroforestry helps communities adapt to changing weather patterns.
- Biodiversity Conservation: Planting native trees supports local wildlife and restores ecosystems.
Community Engagement
We actively involve the community in our initiatives. Through training sessions and workshops, we educate farmers about the importance of agroforestry and provide them with seedlings to plant alongside their crops. Our efforts also include setting up boreholes to ensure access to water for both daily use and tree nurturing.
