Chongwe High School Football pitch meeting

We had a meeting at Chongwe Secondary School football ground where we planned our next activities before the onset of the rain season.

We do not have an office yet, so for this meeting we sat on the ground outside the Chongwe High School football pitch.

The purpose of the meeting was to sign a consent form to agree to sign for climate change grant. The form we had to sign needed 10 signatures, which we met.

The application for this grant also required a letter of recommendation from headman Chikwela, which we attached.

Our founder Hope Mkunte gave us an update on were we are with the T-shirt branding and the fruit tree planting project in schools.

The Leucaena agroforestry initiative was the main topic as it will benefit a lot of small scale farmers in Chongwe. We have collected more than 10,000 Leucaena tree seeds and we are going to plant them as soon as the rain season starts.

One of our members, Christine Twaambo donated 15 fruit trees to the project and offered to teach everyone else how to graft and bud fruit trees. This will be one of our next activities.

The core group of volunteers is united and eager to start group activities even though we do not have funding yet. The group also discussed the date for our next hike.

We also do not have a table for signing group meetings so sometimes we use each other’s backs to do that.
